Gabapentin is a prescription medication that affects the way nerves send signals in the brain and throughout the nervous system. It belongs to a class of drugs called anticonvulsants, which are designed to stabilize abnormal electrical activity in nerve cells. Originally developed to help control seizures, gabapentin is now also widely prescribed for nerve-related conditions such as neuropathic pain.
