Gabapentin is generally not recommended during pregnancy due to limited safety potential risks of preterm birth, low birth weight, and increased cardiac anomalies if used during the first trimester. High-dose folic acid is often recommended, ideally starting 3 months before pregnancy and continuing through the first 12 weeks.
