На втория ден след като беше хвърлен във водите на река Луда Мара, кръстът бе открит от Георги Котрулев в 11.20 часа. „Днес отбихме водата на реката на мястото, където беше хвърлен кръста и така се намери”, съобщи отец Михаил. По думите му, след като е бил хвърлен, кръстът се е забил в дъното на реката, поради което се е загубил. В продължилото три дни търсене се включиха 60 човека, издирвайки религиозния символ с багер и металотърсач.
