Temazepam (Restoril) is a prescription drug from the benzodiazepine class, which is mainly used to treat short-term insomnia (hassle of falling or staying asleep). To promote relaxation and sleep, a neurotransmitter in the brain works by increasing the effect of GABA. It usually starts working between 30 to 60 minutes and is only used for a short time due to the risk of resistance, addiction, and withdrawal. It should be used with caution, basically in the elderly or when combined with alcohol or other sedatives.
