Lunesta and Sonata are non-benzodiazepine sleep aids. Lunesta lasts longer, helping with sleep onset and maintenance, but may cause next-day drowsiness or a metallic taste. Sonata has a very short half-life, mainly aiding sleep onset with minimal morning grogginess. Sonata can be taken for middle-of-the-night awakenings if enough time remains. Both carry risks of dependence, dizziness, and unusual sleep behaviors.
