Lunesta and Restoril both carry risks. Restoril (a benzodiazepine) generally has higher risk of dependence, tolerance, and withdrawal complications. Lunesta (a “Z-drug”) may cause abnormal sleep behaviors and next-day impairment but is often considered slightly lower risk for dependence. Neither is “safe” if misused; danger depends on dose, duration, other drugs (especially alcohol), and individual health.
