For many years, researchers have been trying to identify diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, major (monophasic) depression and bipolar disorder. Identifying such biomarkers will help in the diagnosis of these disorders, as well as in the possible development of effective psychiatric drugs to treat them.
