Cockroach eggs are usually found inside a small, oval-shaped capsule called an ootheca, which looks like a brown or dark tan bean or purse. The capsule has ridged or segmented edges and is often about the size of a grain of rice or slightly larger. Depending on the species, the egg case may be carried by the female or hidden in cracks, crevices, or dark corners. Each ootheca can contain multiple eggs, which hatch into baby cockroaches after a few weeks.
